SANS Penetration Testing

Announcing the SANS Spectacular Pen Test Video Contest!

Great penetration testers, by their very nature, are a creative bunch. Our jobs involve finding flaws, tearing them apart carefully, and artfully explaining our results so an organization can better understand its risk and defend itself.

To provide an outlet for this creativity and to share tips, tools, techniques, and inspiration, SANS is excited to announce:

The SANS Spectacular Pen Test Video Contest

Also known as the SANS SPTVC (rolls off the tongue, now, doesn't it?), the idea here is to share some penetration testing insight, tip, trick, or technique that you've learned on your own or perhaps from a SANS Pen Test Course. Or, you could make an inspirational video about the importance of penetration testing done properly. Record it in video format, edit as you see fit, send it in, and we'll pick the best to win a fine prize. We'll have winners in each of the following categories:

1) Most useful tip

2) Highest production values (with a useful tip)

3) Most entertaining (with a useful tip)

4) Random draw (yes, even if you send us a 1 second clip of a TV Test pattern, you've got a chance to win in this category).

From those four, we'll choose a GRAND PRIZE WINNER, which is simply the best of the best of the best.

So, what do you win? Each of the four winners will get an autographed copy of the Counter Hack Reloaded book. We'll also tell people around the world how wonderful you are. And, the GRAND PRIZE WINNER will receive a free subscription to NetWars Continuous, worth over $ 2,000. The GRANS PRIZE WINNER will have four full months of skill-development and CMU/CPE credit building in this virtual CtF environment, complete with automated hint system to help you if you get stuck.

Entries will be judged by a motley assortment^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h distinguished panel of SANS Pen Test instructors, including such luminaries as Josh Wright, John Strand, Ed Skoudis, Steve Sims, Kevin Johnson, Bryce Galbraith, James Lyne, and Pieter Danhieux. Please keep all videos family friendly to respect the finer sensitivities of some instructors on this list.

Submit your entries by sending them to PenTestVideo <at> sans.org with a subject line of SANS Pen Test Video Contest. You can send them either as e-mail attachments (less than 5 MB, please) or a link to the video you've posted on YouTube or other open video sharing site. All entries are due by February 15, 2014.

Have fun!

-Ed Skoudis.
